The Assiniboine and Gros Ventre Indian Reservation at Fort Belknap in northern Montana have open range hunts every fall, usually in October. Went out there in 2007 & shot a cow w/a Shiloh .45/90 and had a great time. Make sure you use a silver blade front sight or something that you can see, 'cause I had my hooded target sight on my rifle and lost it when I zeroed in on the buff. Lesson learned the hard way.
If you need more info, let me know through this forum & I'll contact you. |

Call the Chico Basin Ranch 719-683-7960, they also own/manage the Zapata Ranch (Colorado) and Buffalo hunt there.

Unfortuneetely I am a Canadian. I will be attempting to go to northern alberta where there are herds of wild woodland buffalo. There may be some difficulty with a Sharps as the velocity may not be legally fast enough. Would a 40/65 be big enough or would you suggest the 45/70? I have a cute Shiloh Montana Roughrider in 40/65.
