Nano, Galloway striker return

OK...I drank the Galloway Kool-aid and bought a new striker guide for my nano...it appears all I have to do is use one hand to hold down the stricker spring...the other hand to press on the extractor spring and my OTHER hand to press on the back plate. Hmm. This plate is NOT coming off...pry on it, pull on it, push on it, cuss it, speak loving words to it..nada.

OK..what am I doing wrong? AND, do I really need this metal guide at all..is the plastic original really liable to breakage?
