38 Special 158 RNFP - OAL question
I just recieved a brand new box of pretty 158 RNFP bullets from Missouri Bullet Co, and am looking for help.
In order to crimp into the crimping groove, I need to get the oal down to 1.426 However, all the data I have for .38 Special shows oal min 1.445 Some of these loads are to be used in a lever action (tubular mag). What should I do? I have Bullseye and Titegroup available. Should I just load light? Back off the OAL and fail to seat on the crimping groove? What are you favorite loads for this bullet? |

My Lee Modern Reloading second edition shows a Bullseye load for a Min OAL of 1.420" starting at 3.5gr and a max of 3.6gr using 158gr LSWC bullets. I have personally loaded this OAL at 3.5gr and they shot great.
I would crimp in the groove and back off 10% and work up to 3.5gr making sure they look good. Crimping in the groove makes for a much nicer looking and feeding round. Good luck. VL Last edited by Mtn Biker; December 22, 2009 at 08:53 AM. |

Crimp a revolver bullet in the crimp groove. The book OAL does not apply unless you are using the SAME bullet they do. No published standard velocity ("non +P") load will make any difference in a modern gun.
