Well, think I worked out a deal for a Zastava M77. Should have it in a week or so....really looking forward to its arrival!

Here's what I got. Came with an original 10 rounder and 2 M14 mags. I finished converting the mags and added the mount yesterday. Now just need a usable scope, and maybe another couple 20 rounders. I love the look.

A. Plan to get it to the range on Sunday with 3 or 4 different boxes of ammo to try.
2. No particular scope in mind yet, something solid and "economical". Two big area gunshows coming up, so I will shop a bit. III. Traded 2 guns and a little cash for it; came out to a pretty good deal for both of us. Also thinking seriously about a bipod.

Congrats on the new addition, I have thought about adding one of these but haven't looked into it enough yet. Be sure to post a range report after you get a scope for it.

Again, the PTR 91 is a very good rifle to suit your needs (although it destroys brass if you are looking to reload your casings).
Get one, they are under $900.

That stock came with the rifle, along with the original thumb-hole. The previous owner called it a "Romanian Dragunov" stock. He did some filling-in around the receiver rear; seems pretty solid.

Shot great today, very happy. Best groups from South African milsurp, after trying 6 different brands and weights.
Any "economical" scope recommendations?

I don't have a specific model to recommend, but have 2 sites to help further your research.
I found this article & ranking very helpful when I was looking at scopes, so I had an idea of how all the different quality lines from different makers compared. http://www.chuckhawks.com/recommended_riflescopes.htm Secondly, set your budget a little higher at first. Then see if you can find a model you're interested in on the Sample List, that's been discounted down into your original price range. https://samplelist.com/ |

Thanks for the above!
I have now purchased and installed: a UTG scope, Midwest Industries mount, a Romanian adjustable RPK rear sight, a solid "Ebay" bipod, and a 20 round Csspecs mag. Ready to Rock-n-Roll!!! At least in semi. Seems to really like South African milsurp ammo.
