SKB XL100 20" Slug Gun, Auto (Ithaca?)_

I picked up this shotgun back in 1981-2 at a gunshow based simply on
how good it looked and held. In the December 83 issue of "Survival Weapons and Tactics" (SWAT), they had a 5 page article (still have the book) on this
gun and phrased it as "A True Fighting Shotgun". They ran 3000 rounds of slugs and buckshot thru it without cleaning and had no stoppages. In addition they claimed it to be exceptionally fast and on a combat course had
"Amazed observers with multiple center hits achieved on four silhouettes placed in a "crowd" in less than 2 seconds".

They were made in Japan and only 3000 manufactured before it was determined to be a "Defense Weapon" and not allowed under a treaty obligation, and production stopped. This angered the manf (Mitsui) and
they got out of the firearms business.

In Massad Ayoob's book "Stressfire II" on page 61, there is a picture of him
holding one of these shotguns and referring to it a a "Ithaca SKB" and indicating that Jeff Cooper called this the "Best autoloading combat shotgun"

Sorry I don't have any computer photograpy skills or I'd try to get a photo on
here.

Serial number of my piece is 13532xx. I've never seen it listed in any of the
Resale value books. It's had less than 10 rounds of #4 buckshot thru it in the 23-4 years that I've owned it.

Anyone out there have any additional info on these shotguns or any idea of
their value? Oh, I have the original box which shows the distributor as being
"SKB Sports inc, Wheeling Illinois.

I'd never heard of that model, but I dug up this ad from 10/02.

"12 gauge, 20" cylinder, gas operated. This gun is new in the box and has never been unwrapped, it's still in all of the original factory wrapping. If you missed buying one of these great shooting gassers before they were discontinued, here's probably your final chance at finding a virgin in the wrapping! $560.00"
