The bushing are wrong. You will need to use a scale to verify your powder drop. ClayDot is not ideal for 3/4 - Titewad and Extra-Lite are the best
Do NOT go by burn rate - that has nothing to do with what you are trying to do, except maybe take a finger off Why aren't you using the CB 3/4oz wad? You may need to add a Cheerio on top for a better crimp Last edited by A400 Fan; September 2, 2014 at 08:05 PM. Reason: added |

But the point is, there is no published recipe, at least on the Alliant site, for a 3/4 oz load in a 12ga using Clay Dot....
Clay Dot is not a smart choice...for a 3/4 oz load...and changing the wad isn't the solution... If you want to use Clay Dot....then use it per the published recipes at 7/8 oz etc....per the tables is my recommendation. --------------- Like others advised, make sure you use a good scale to check what a given bushing is dropping ...for any powder....but the only chart I can find for MEC bushings for Clay Dot are: # 28 15.4 gr # 29 16.0 gr #30 16.5 gr # 31 16.9 gr # 32 17.4 gr # 33 18.1 gr # 34 18.8 gr.... but there is nothing sacred about a # 28 bushing....one #28 may vary as much as 1/2 grain ...over another #28 bushing. They're easy to loosen up, if you want to ...and remark them with a Dremel. If you have a published recipe for 15.0 gr....I'd start with a # 27 bushing and check it with a scale to see what its dropping...( drop 5 or 6 charges and average them out ).../ but if it varies more than plus or minus 0.1 grain ...then you have other issues. Can't go wrong with titewad for the lighter 12ga target loads. I load 15gr in my 7/8oz target loads and like it says on the bottle, a little sure does go a long way! I'm using the claybuster WAA12l wads with this combo. They're going around 1300fps and if I do my part it really smokes the targets.

I load 17 for 3/4oz loads that, over a chrono, are 1210 fps. 18 gave me 1275 - that's the average with a SD of 5. The 1210 loads work both my gas guns with zero issues.
IF you drop to 3/4, you will need to boost the 7/8 data - usually about 1 grain - but you can verify that on your own |
