shed hunter...thief?
Posting this to help a guy I don't know personally, but is probably as pi$$ed as I'd be, identify and catch a possible thief.
Here's the story: This weekend I went to switch out my cards on my trail cameras. I have still been running my cameras because my dad, brother and I like gathering sheds every year. A couple of the cameras had a picture of a guy in camo walking by. You couldn't see his face to make out who it is. The last camera had a perfect picture of the guy's face. I have attached the picture. I don't think it is coincidental; 2 of my cameras are now missing from this property. We have owned this property for many years and don't really appreciate people sneaking around on it picking up the sheds before we have a chance. To top off our frustration, we are missing 2 of our cameras that cost $250 a piece. I am asking for your help to help identify the guy in the picture. Please forward this email on to contacts that might know anybody in the Iola area. Surely, somebody can recognize this guy. My assumption is the guy lives within 30-40 miles of Iola. You can zoom in on the picture by clicking on the bottom right icon. Feel free to email me back with any information or you can call me on my cell phone (918) 633-3374. Thanks, Craig Yocham

Some old leg hold traps, you know the ones without the spacers (now illegal) around your cameras could make for some interesting pictures!

I'm almost with peetzakilla on this one, but all you have is a pic and no tangible proof he stole the cameras. Not sure what they would do, but trespassing at a minimum could definitely be proven by the pic.
Sounds like time for some poacher patrols. Last edited by globemaster3; March 13, 2009 at 08:48 AM. Reason: typo |

Take out an ad in your local news paper. Just post the pic and your email to call if anyone knows this guy. Then beat his as$

Print out several copies of the picture. Take one to the sheriff's office, and file a complaint. Trespass, for starters, with the possibility that the trespasser was the thief.
I'd walk around the local area, nearby towns, with a copy of the picture, asking game wardens and folks at cafes, bars and gunshops if they knew him--but not running my mouth about the possible thefts. Kinda make a joke of "The camera caught him trespassing." It's too easy to get into some sort of trouble if you indulge in a bunch of mouth music. |

I've been through a lot of hard times and have never stolen anything - ever. Some people just steel for the hell-of-it! I hope he's caught and punished!

I wonder if you could get him for stealing the sheds? If the property is properly posted then it may be illegal for him to remove ANYTHING from it, including shed antlers.

Put his face on your local Craigslist, frequently.
Pretty dumb though, just because he found two cameras, how is he to know how many are out there? |

I'd turn it in to the police and warden... If you figure out who it is they may be able to get a search warrent based on his trespass date cooinciding to your property being stolen. Hope they get him. BTW, I've only been to Texas once and I never left the airport

G'day. I didn't do it, you can't prove a thing and I won't do it again.

Sheds don't count. Trespassing does. You'd have to prove he took the cameras though. Got the serial numbers? Call the police, give 'em the picture and file a trespass complaint.

you could try to pattern when he shows up, find his vehicle, cut the valve stems off, then call the police and report a trespasser

Cutting the valve stems off is vandalism. Removing the valve-stem cores is not.

Hopefully when you catch him he will still have the cameras with pictures of him walking up to them to steal them.

I'm with ya, Brent. But in certain states, you could probably get convicted of unlawful detainment.
Honestly... if I had a dozer and back-hoe, I'd probably take that chance to create a scene like the picture you posted. |

Unlawful detainment? Nobody is saying the owner of that truck can't leave. He just needs to get walkin'. When he gets to town he can call the property owner for permission, then a tow truck driver

Surprising he didn't get that camera too, he's looking right at it. Is your land near a populated area, with a few houses surrounding it? There may be more than one person out there.
