Reloading 30-338/308 Norma Mag
First time on forum. I am looking for loading data for 165 gr bullets. I am using 338 mag brass that was reformed to 30-338 and fire-formed. Now I need reloading data. Would appreciate any help I can get.

I've got several 30/338 mags and love 'em. Data is available from Accurate or Sierra.
http://www.accuratepowder.com/data/P...0270%20271.pdf I'm flinging 150gr Coreloks out of my 40x at just a hair above 3500'ps. For benchrest, I'm running 190gr HPBT special run Winchesters at 2700'ps for one hole accuracy at 100 yds. The Sakos get the most field use running the Sierra 165 HPBTs with 68.5grs of IMR4350 which nets 3100'ps. If yer interested in blowing up coyotes, try 75.5 grs IMR4350 under a 125gr Speer TNT. Hint: you can't shoot them in a fog and they won't go thru a spider web either but hit a coyote in the mid section and then go over and pick up the pieces...if you can enough to pick up. Rabbits at 200 yds looks like you shot them with an artillery piece. It's a cartridge that many over look. Lots of horsepower and it was a favorite of Ackley too. |

Thanks for the help. I haven't reload rifle ammo in a long, long time. Going thru my powder supply I found 3 metal cans of IMR4895 & metal can of IMR4350 that were never opened and been in a cool dry basement for at least 15 years. The 4895 price tag on the cans is $6.67 & the 4850 is $12.95, so you can see these are quite old. Question is are these powders still OK to use?

The IMR4350 is a good powder for this cartridge. I wouldn't worry about the age of the powder as long as it doesn't have an acrid smell to it or looks rusty. I've got powder that's still in great shape that's over 30 years old. And I've bought powder that went bad in less than a year. Just give it a smell and a look. The 4895 is not a good powder for this case. The case is far too large and the 4895 too fast for decent loading density. You need to be about 80%+ on the loading density.
You can find data in the early Speer manuals and in Ackleys manuals but Ackleys have a tendency to run extremely hot. |
