Reloading the .308/7.62x51 for the Ishapore 2A1
I vaguely remember reading somewhere that I think it is recommended to keep pressures under 50,000 psi for the Ishapore 2A1, does anyone know anything about his. Also I am trying to decide what bullet size will give the most accurate results in the 2A1 and am considering 150-165 grain sizes. Does anyone have any info on reloading the .308/7.62x51 for the Ishapore 2A1 they can share on the above questions.
Thanks |

Use the longer bullets, use a light charge of slower burning powder.
168gr HPBT and 41.5gr of IMR4064 should shoot well for you. I recommend heavier bullets only because the throat of many milsurps is "well used" and short bullets often have too long of a jump for best accuracy. Jimro

The Ishapore the 2A and 2A1 were made of higher quality steel to handle increased pressure of the 7.62 NATO round. You can use normal NATO pressure loads for your gun.
I agree totally with Billybob123. You also might want to have the head space measured. I have been shooting mine for over 10 years and use Speer 150 GR, with 43.5 GR of 4895. Speer #10 lists the following Speer 150 gr Min:41 Max:45 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishapore_2A1_rifle

60,191 psi
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.62%C3%9751mm_NATO 62,000.0 psi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.308_Winchester ------------------------ 3% difference... so I would never shoot 308 ammo in my Ishapore I got an Ishapore 308 imported by Gibbs Rifle company, sold by J&G in Shotgun News for $69.95 in 1999. I cleaned pounds of Cosmoline off the rifle and was criticized for not leaving the stock Cosmoline in place. I further added a non invasive Federal Arms Corp steel scope mount.

Higher pressure than the 303! Not 308!

The myth of 308 being higher pressure than 7.62x51 came from a pressure rating of "50,000 psi cup" being shortened down to "50,000 psi" in a government manual.
When you talk cup to cup or psi to psi they are the same thing as far as pressure is concerned. Still, no point in trying to hot rod an enfield. Jimro
