My Battle Belt, version 1.0

The components are all made by Condor. It has two double-mag, open-top pouches; I re-worked the shock-cords to fit my G3 mags better. I also got a roll-up dump pouch. It opens out to 8.5" H x 8" W and will hold five G3 mags. It is OD green.

This was the first time I've ever ordered anything from marsgear.com, but I was impressed. The prices seemed comparable to other sites, but they offered free shipping. I placed my order on the afternoon of the 17th, and got it Priority Mail from California to Georgia today, the 20th.

Get the suspenders. Assuming there is such a thing. Makes a huge difference when you add water. Especially if you add 5 full 20 round mags.

Get a vest or chest harness. Weight around your waist is the worst.

My Battle Belt, version 2.0

Today I received my Condor H2O pouch:

And the 40 oz klean kanteen that fits it perfectly:

And a Condor ammo pouch (which will hold five G3 mags):

Here are those two new pouches on the belt:

Cont.

Then I attached the Condor H-harness that I also got today:

and modeled the ensemble while my son took photos: (please ignore the T-shirt, gym shorts, and big belly)

My Battle Belt, version 2.1

After wearing the belt for a few minutes I noticed that the ammo pouch with the five G3 mags was really pulling down on the back of the belt. Since the belt only had two rows of molle, but the back of the H-harness had three (and the loops seemed smaller), I decided to move the ammo pouch onto the upper back:

I’ll just have to try it and see how it works. I’m really surprised at how much heavier five 20-round mags in one pouch feels compared to four mags in two double-mag pouches, one on each side. Stay tuned, there may be a version 3.0 around the corner.

FYI - 5 loaded G3 mags in the Condor ammo pouch weighs 7.4 lbs.

My Battle Belt, version 2.2

OK, I've put the ammo pouch back down onto the belt; however, I've moved it up one molle section and that seemed to better support the weight:

With one mag already in the rifle, that would give me 200 rounds of .308/7.62x51.

My Battle Belt, version 3.0

I think this is the final version. It has four double-mag pouches (160 rounds); dump pouch; H20 pouch; rip away EMT lite pouch. My philosophy of use is inspired by Tom Hardy's character in the movie Black Hawk Down:

Twombly (Tom Hardy): You're not gonna need that, either. Might as well take dope and beer instead.
Grimes (Ewan McGregor): What?
Twombly: Ammo, dude. Take ammo.

Hope you're keeping the H harness or suspenders.

That's a lot of ready rounds. If comfortable in all likely positions that's great. If not I wouldn't be afraid to stash some of it away where it is.

Yep, he nailed that. Still, more of a marathon than a sprint.

Weight on your chest or shoulders still has to be held by your hips eventually. The lower you can get the weight the better. Below the knees is a real pain if running, but I'm guessing that probably isn't relevant.

They use vests because the use armor held in the vest.

First,it looks like a nice belt, and, with the suspenders,it looks like a great outfit to go shooting with.

I'm not military,I'm not a Veteran, and I'm an Old Guy who has enough worn out parts running is not an option.

Please don't take this as raining on your parade. It looks like a real good setup.

You said it was "Blackhawk Down" inspired. I was not there.

Those guys had several problems. One of them was lots of enemy. The other was running out of ammo. And then there was a long way to go. Running the Mogadishu Mile.
My opinion,(not any better than yours) it all makes a good case for 5.56 vs 7.62.
Especially if you have a few miles to run. As far as a hard lump like an ammo pouch centered lower back, consider landing on it.

Working hard in a hot place ...I'd think about having more water.Gallon a day may not be enough.

If people are really shooting at you,you might be crawling as low as possible, through sand,mud,etc.. Under those conditions, open mag pouches might not be good.

But I'm grateful that I do not have to go to real battles .For a walk in the desert with a rifle,or a coyote hunt,or a day at the range. You have put together a great setup to compliment a7.62 battle rifle.

Well done.

Looks good. I like my 4 pocket Rhody rig. 100 rounds of x51 will nutralize lots of tangos, 180 is even better.

I agree with the comment I heard from a local LEO and range officer: "The only time you have too much ammo is when you're swimming."
