I'm a lefty, so this is an easy question for me: my Charter Arms Southpaw.

That's a wild chain of cause and effect — snakes gone, rodents up, Range Rover down. Nature always fills the gaps. Also agree on training over elimination when possible.

It was quite stunning Echo. Train the dogs, don't kill the snakes. Even a big nasty old Mojave green has a certain beauty. Leave him alone, and he shall do the same. Riverside county has a heck of a big rattlesnake population, not mentioned in the C of C brochure.

If I could recommend that you first determine if you want a completely hidden hammer (DAO), or a shrouded hammer or exposed hammer.
That will determine the pool of possibles that you may prefer.

Personally, I like the Kimber K6 series of revolvers. Well made and very accurate.

I have a 642 with larger after market rubber grips for better taming recoil

The Charter Arms lite is a good candidate only 1oz heavier than the S&W and half the price. I have three different CA revolvers, they operate flawlessly.

I have a Taurus 856 that is all stainless and it's a great little revolver.
Another option that is lightweight would be one of their Ultra-Lite models - like an 856 Ultra-Lite.

Having a lot of experience with revolvers and snakes, 99.99% of the time if you see snake you can avoid it. My buddy raised Basset and he was constantly getting dogs bit, mostly Copper Heads and in late summer. My family kept English Setters and we were very careful during summer exercising.
As far as shot cartridges, you are better off with a hoe handle. In have to shot situations a bullet is much better than shot. Some of these 25’ shots are either amazing fluke or total BS. At 25’ with #7.5 shot in 12gauge FC you can’t be assured of either killing snake or even hitting it.
