HELP odd weight 40 S&W bullets
Yeah, I should have looked. Heard that about 27 times so far from the wife. Bought a bulk box of 165 gr JHP's (not plated). None of my books show a load for a 165. I'm loading mostly from the Alliant family, Unique in particular. Short of using a heavier weight load data, does anyone have this info laying around handy? Picked up a LE Rebuilt Glock 22, and I'm ready to take it to the range and wring it out.

Alliant says
This for 150 gr.
http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloade...22&bulletid=63 and this for 170 gr. http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloade...22&bulletid=64 I know it's not exactly what you asked for, but it appears you might start by assuming 7.0 as a max, and starting at least 10% less at 6.3 gr. Note - not responsible for anyone's use of this information! Here's the math I used: 6.7 grains max for the 170 gr, 8.0 grains max for 150 gr. Split the difference at 7.35 for an assumed 160 grain bullet. Now split the difference again between the 6.7 and the 7.35, and you get 7.025 gr. Round it down to 7.0 gr, then knock 10% off to be safe. |

You didn't mention what brand the bullet was. The Sierra manual lists a 165 gr. JHP. Unique starts at 5.2 grains and max's out at 7.0 grains. OAL 1.125".

Ya mean my math was actually in line with the books?

Just use the data for 170gr bullets and don't look back.

165's are all I shoot from my glock-22. Either west coast or Berry's plated. I feel it gives me a middle of the road load, between light and heavy bullets for the 40 S&W, Since I onlu use ww-231, I can't help you with unique.
