Swat at my home again!

Several years ago, swat was called out for a standoff two houses down, guy with a gun hiding under a porch. they eventually called in a dog and he surrendered.

This time it was a lot closer to home. Specifically, thirty feet or so. An armed home invasion took place a mile or so south, it ended at my home.

OUR TEAM ACTED LIKE TRUE PROS.

No profanities, no needless shouting, nothing said besides absolutely necessary direction. Guy was refusing to leave the vehicle, swat eventually bean bagged the rear window. He had, iirc, three handguns, one stolen. Another video, shot by neighbor, showed one dropping to the ground.

Seriously, we have a fantastic crew.

Yes, that truck was on the street no more than fifty feet from wheel to my window. Swat and others had posts in my property and sidewalk, as far as I could see. We didn't know it was happening until the cars stopped there, we only knew that a heck of a lot of units were converging here, but possibly to join up and move west along the heavier trafficked street. I looked out and saw all of the guns and we went to the basement.

The poster on the utility pole is a young girl who has been missing for over a month with no indication. Some insist that it was a runaway but the family seems to disagree.

I'd be curious if the OP was armed (e.g. always carries on person) or there were weapons in the basement.

If the SWAT team came to his house (presuming there might be another suspect or other person to detain), being armed might provoke their wrath.

If the suspect somehow evaded the SWAT folks and came to his house, being armed might well have served him well.

Interested to read more from the OP about what was "going on in his head" when this event transpired.

Nice to see somebody make the smart decision to secure themselves and their family in a safe location. Lots of folks these days would have grabbed their phones/cameras and headed out onto their front porch!

It IS a good idea to know, at least as best you can, what is going on in the neighborhood and possibly coming your way without getting yourself shot in the process.

Home surveillance cameras facing out the yard can be excellent for this. I take it you don’t have any.

If there are objections to the content feel free to move or delete it. I thought that watching or hearing about this sort of thing might be helpful to tactical units. I thought that it had value, I had a few real discoveries.

I've seen a whole lot of civilians who have very different ideas from this as to how swat operations should take place, how police should or do act. I've seen some people practice "SWAT" techniques, such as walking into a target dumping all of the rounds they have. There are also civilians who ought to learn from this post, for example, don't make a nuisance of yourself by turning on all of the lights and sit on the porch with cameras. Those really are guns, right? Was the one that fell drop safe?

I Usually carry, even in the home. Kept it with me in the basement. I can only assume that my basement wouldn't have been stormed, there wouldn't be many survivors if attackers went into it with bad guys concealed there. I gave them credit for good sense, while the windows bothered me.

A while back I had a big dog come into my property and get aggressive when I talked to him. He followed me into my locked yard and I closed him in. School was letting out soon and I called animal control, waited outside with a holstered pistol.

When AC got there, after they had the information they told me to go disarm myself before I came back out.

"no" I said, "this tar baby is all yours. I'm going in and not coming back. get him in and get off of my lawn.!" (okay, a little bit of exaggeration there.)

why sit and interfere with a man with a noose and a gun and a dangerous (possibly) animal?

I thought that some could benefit or appreciate it. We have a police academy and a professional swat training unit there. The casinos here handle millions of dollars and our units and even their private security train and carry automatic weapons. Our swat units are called out any time, even on some really simple calls, and are called out of jurisdiction frequently for support.

I was quite surprised to see only one man on point, probably the best handgun shooter in the team, standing only a few feet from the car 'negotiating.' He was pretty much the only officer who spoke throughout it. His warnings were mostly "or I will have to shoot you!'

Maybe it's important that we put an extra set of walls between us and the confrontations, we went to start the dishwasher. We went down when we heard the single bag round. In all honesty, I don't think that anything but a buckshot round could have gotten to us upstairs in the kitchen. These walls are rock hard plaster and lathe, and even the windowed walls would still have a round off walls that would be like a cinder block wall. The fireplace obviously would stop it, but nobody should count on anything when it comes to possible shots being fired.

The objection isn't to the content, it's to the lack of content. Your link leads to an article that basically tells us nothing other than that a man was arrested. This area of TFL is for discussing training techniques and tactics. There's nothing in this thread that fits those criteria.
