Hi everyone. I'm looking for sum help with a manufacture date on my S&W .357magnum. I'm going to invest in the catalog I have read about on here. I'm just excited & can't wait that long. It's never been fired & in pristine condition. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Serial # 4K24xxx

Smith & Wesson Model 66-4
Will be selling a S&W Model 66-4 with a set of new unopened wood stocks. This item was purchased new and never fired. Can anyone give me the manuf, date (s/n BSH1xxx) & a fair market value of the revolver & stocks. I think I purchased it in the late eighties & S&W sent me the new stocks for free. There is one currently one on G/B 66-5 w/3" barrel at $900+ and going up. Thanks, AndyB

It would be a model 17. I'm not aware of any on-line S&W manuals but if you contact S&W customer service they will send you an owners manual. Quote:

You did not mention the barrel length but unless you have a 3" barrel it ain't going for anywhere near $900. You did not mention what type of stocks either. Quote:
CBL78XX = 1996/97. 785XX = I'm going to take a guess here that this is a Model Number One, 3rd Issue in 22 rimfire short in which the barrel would tip upward for loading/unloading? If so, SN's ran from 1 in 1868 to 131163 in 1881. Jim |

Model 14-6
Hi
I have recently bought a beautiful .38 Special Model 14-6 which I think is a Targetmaster. The serial number is CAA91xx. I am really pleased with it as it is in mint condition and so comfortable to use, the results make me look better than I really am. Any idea of date of manufacture? Thanks in advance. K-38 Masterpiece. However, the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson calls it the K-38 Target Masterpiece. Jim |

J4968xx = Serial numbers ran from J370000 in 1976 to J610000 in 1977. No "J" prefix 4968xx = about 1965. Jim |

The j is not part of the number so the 65 date sounds right thanks

smith and wesson age from serial number
a friend brought a s&w wheel gun in my store the other day that i could not find in my gun value book so i believe it was modified. It had a bull barrel a bo-mar sight railing system and it was in 357 mag. i looked for the model on the yoke and saw a " T " that was all. the serial # is c927xxx. any ideas about what i saw.

thanks for the info jim. the gun looked really sound 95% on bluing every where. If i get to look at it again i'll check caliber carfully. any idea about the lack of a model other than a t on the yoke.

The model 13 (357 magnum version of the model 10) started production in 1974 and had a "D" prefix serial number from that era. in 1972 there were some model 10's chambered for 357 magnum as a special order for the N.Y.S.P. But your C prefix means that frame started life as a 38 special. So, there is no telling what all has been done to it. Jim |
