Looking for a source for flints
I know a lot of people are into the nipple huggers, in-lines, and others but I shoot a flintlock and need to find a source for flints. I found a guy in NMLRS’s Muzzle Blast about 7 years ago who was a flint knapper out of Kentucky, but he doesn’t seem to be around anymore. So does anyone out there have a source for good hand knapped flints? Seems the price has tripled per flint since I last bought a gross of them, I have seen them for about $3.00 per flint (:barf:which is a touch much! ) and really don’t want to spend that much per flint.

Try R.E. Davis Company at [email protected] or 419-833-1200. I bought barrels and flintks from them when I last visited Friendship, OH.

BTW, on MuzzleloadingHide, a bunch of us got together a few years ago and organized a group buy. We ordered thousands of flints and the English flintknapper was shocked with our order. I ordered several hundred myself just in case the English decided to come back for round 3. By buying in bulk, we really got a good price. It was less than .90 for a 1" flint.

All,
Got some from Rich Pierce! Thanks for all the suggestions and replies! Must say Rich was great to deal with and would tell anyone to give him a shout if you need flints. So far they are working well. The first one I tried I have 62 shots using it and only knapped it twice. So far so good! Keep'em in the black! |
