old Wildcat .22 ammo

Not long ago cheap Winchester Wildcat bulk ammo used to be virtually a plain lead hollowpoint semiwadcutter. It was the perfect revolver ammo being cloverleaf accurate in my 1979 K22. They have since changed the profile, probably because it jammed automatics.

Is there any other swc .22 available (with or without a hollowpoint)?

I did not know Wildcats were swc now. Thought they were always solid RN.

Winchester hit a home run with their 'Power Point' - the original 40 gr. plated HP SWC - ammo that was originally made in Australia. Probably tested on rabbits down there.
Power Point is by far the most accurate high velocity ammo I've ever used.

I think W-W took this bullet shape and sales success into their bulk, reviving the 'Expert' name along with the new "Dynapoint' name for the plain version and packaging a poor 36 gr. plated version into their '333' and '555'.
None of this imitation ammo shoots as accurately as the premium Power Point, but it feeds well enough in my semis.

I highly recommend the Power Point for a try.
Cost is higher than bulk.
And good luck finding any of it now the way the market is!!

A quick check of my regular rimfire supplier shows a two to three week backlog on accepting orders, much less filling them.
Must be over concern of on-line, mail order ammo being regulated or curtailed.

Strange times for sure.

All the Wildcat I've ever bought and fired was solid round nose lead.

And it worked GREAT in my Taurus PT-22.

Currently wildcat is solid round nose.

It used to be swchp though they did not call it that.

How old are you talking about?

I've been buying Wildcat since the early 1990s and it's always been solid roundnose.

This was about 5 - 8 years ago. Bought it at Academy Sports. It had a very aggressive (wide) hollow point. At first I thought it sucked because it jammed an auto up. But in a revolver it was tops.

As I noted, I've been buying Wildcat since about 1995 or 1996, have bought probably 5 to 7 bricks in that time spread out over a number of years, and it has always been LRN.

Winchester's website also shows Wildcat as being only LRN.

Ok, the bullet looked something like this but was packaged differently in a bulk box.

Winchester-Western Wildcat HP ammo came in blue boxes of 50 in the '80s.

I recall seeing early Dynapoint bulk boxes also marked Wildcat. I cannot recall if it was Dynapoint Wildcat or Wildcat Dynapoint.

I'll be dipped. I never knew that Winchester had loaded Dynapoint Wildcat ammo.

X-pert used a 36 grain hollow point in a standard length .22lr case.
Since the overall length was shorter than a standard length .22lr, they did have a lot of feeding issues in some semi autos - Rugers in particular.
