Charles Daly Drilling

I recently purchased a Charles Daly drilling in 12X12 and 257 Roberts. My research indicates that they were made either by the H. A. Linder Co. or by Sauer and Son. However, there is nothing on it to say which one made it. Anybody here know how you can tell the difference?

What proof marks are on the gun? That should give you a good idea if you know where the companies are located.
Found this little tidbit here
MARKINGS: "Charles Daly" on each sidelock; crown over two crossed pistols (Linder trademark) on bottom of each barrel ahead of the flats; "Charles Daly Fine Damascus Barrels" on rib.
I'm sure sauerfan will get you the right sauer markings for those guns so you can tell which one.

Both Linder and Sauer & Son were in Suhl, Germany. There is a crossed "something" on the bottom of one of the barrels. It looks (under a magnifying glass) like possibly crossed knives, but perhaps pistols. The mark is small and just viewing it with the naked eye, it looks like an X. Is this what you mean? I have also heard that the crossed knives were a Linder trade-mark. So I'm a little confused. Thanks for your help.

Well, Sauer's trademark was a standing "Wild man" holding a stick, definitely not looking like a X. So my guess would be you have the Linder version.

As I get older I find hitting a mini ram at 200 yards with the 22 oddly more satisfying.
