You guys are good.

Judge Holden was basically death (or war, or maybe the devil) incarnate. And at one point a character notes that when they met him he was sitting on a rock in the middle of the desert. All he had was a possibles bag and a rifle with the inscription "Et in Arcadia Ego." For those who haven't read it, it is probably the best modern American novel written--but man is it bloody.

or just keep perfecting the one you have!!!

"Don't forget a Wild West "bear proof" one-piece extractor !!"
It's actually an ejector, a one piece unit that is stronger/more reliable than the factory ejector.

To the O.P... Nice lookin' boomer. You should give a range report. Do you own a chronograph? Do you hand load?

Before buying the Wild West trigger, check with your local gunsmith about a trigger job. Mine was pretty cost effective and I am very impressed with the trigger compared to how it came from the factory.

When I become more adept at camera/computer work I'll post a pic of mine... Although it looks all factory minus the XS sights. I posted a little info about mine in the hunting forum titled "Kodiak Island Hunt Report" or something similar... Here is what I've done to mine.

- Marlin 1895 GS 45-70 govt w/
- XS sight systems Ghost ring sights.... .191" I.D aperture
- Wild West "Bear Proof Ejector"
- Trigger cleaned and lightened to 3.5#
- Action cleaned and smoothed
-Pachmeyer decelerator recoil pad (forgot to add this in the original post)

you can get a "mare's leg" wich is what I believe you're thinking of. they are registered as pistols so they do not require a tax stamp
something,like this:

Looks like a real nice rifle that Guide Gun, but suspect that 16 inch .45/70, with full loads, kicks a mite.

These custom lever guns are killing me (in a very good way ) I'm going to have to build one now.

I've already got a scoped 30-30. It needs a buddy!

How much velocity do you lose by cutting back those 2 inches? They look very cool like that, I was just wondering if the velocity loss is significant and also how accuracy is affected at distance. The .45-70 Guide Gun is on my wish list.

Got to shoot it today. Shot great. The elevation went screwy with the new front sight but it was way too windy to tinker. I was pleasantly surprised that the optic returned to zero almost perfectly.

Literally: And I'm in Arcadia...

From Wikipedia: The phrase is a memento mori, usually interpreted as "Even in Arcadia I exist", as if spoken by personified Death.

And, nice looking Marlin.

+1 capacity

The book is "Blood Meridian." An amazing, but difficult, book.
