Share your NFA timelines!
There is a thread on another board where people share their transfer timelines for NFA items. I think it is a very interesting resource and would be a neat sticky here.

I haven't sent anything in for over a year but I just got a few sign-offs for six F4's going in over the next few weeks (three cans, three MGs). The first was sent out last Thursday so they probably don't even have it yet. Number 2 & 3 might go out later this week or possibly next week. I'll post up more info once I know at least the first one is in the system and pending.
Approval times look really good though. |

I am a FFL and bought 3 suppressors two years ago from AAC and they lair through there teeth!
The NFA approval was 50 days old and AAC still did not even make 2 of the suppressors!! AAC is a husband and wife operation. Go and buy from one of the other companies like AWC, Knight or Gemtech!

I did a suppressor on a form one and got it back exactly 8 weeks after I mailed it.
I'm in the process now on a Ruger AC-556. I'm expecting it to also take 2 months. |

Long time no bump
In 2008 it seems to be taking longer. A lot of people are saying there is a huge number of forms for approval in an attempt to beat the new administration to a ban or more difficult process to get approval. McCain has publicly stated that he feels there is no reason for a private citizen to own a machine gun and Obama is pretty clear on his position of private gun ownership. I have 4 NFA approvals in process right now. I also had a subgun form 4 transfer last year. That one took 2 months and 16 days start to finish. My local law enforcement signature took an additional 12 days on top of that.
Currently : Form 1 Sent 6/22/08 Check cashed 6/26/08 Pending 9/05/08 Approved???not yet Form 1 sent 7/28/08 Check cashed 7/31/08 Status...not in the system yet Form 4 being sent tomorrow for 2 suppressors. I wonder if I will see them before Christmas? |

Volume is very heavy right now for the NFA branch. I am telling my customers 4-10 week wait time on form 4s. Even form 3s (dealer to dealer) transfers are taking longer than normal. We submit about about 100 form 4s & 50 form 3s a month. I am sure there are guys submitting a lot more than that so I can see why there volume is so high. Call us if you have NFA or class 3 questions. 402-366-1596

Geeeez
OK, there is no change in my status on ANY of my submissions. I would have hoped that the form 1 that went pending on 9/5 would have been approved by now. 1 month seems long enough to do a background check on a guy that already has been approved for 2 other NFA weapons.
I didn't get around to sending those checks for the suppressors because I spilled coffee on the forms signed by my LEA and had to go through that whole deal again. Luckily the fingerprint cards are OK. Should have them back next week. I thought they would just sign them again but I had to go through the whole deal again because it was more than 30 days since the forms were signed. Now I am in a race to get these in before the 90 days expires on the Bank checks. |

LOL You are almost there @ 4 weeks. I know the final days are grueling. After 4 weeks I start calling twice a week so I can try and catch any errors before the papers are mailed back. You can clear many problems up same day with a fax.
FWIW, just because you've been approved twice won't speed up future NFA transfers. Everything starts over from scratch, from what people have gathered. |

Now I have 2 Pending...
The second form 1 just went pending yesterday. The first one is still pending from 9/5/08.
Now, maybe I am not as smart as all the government folks but it would seem to me thatIf I had a background check in progress and another background check suddenly popped up on the system, I just might do them both at once and approve the 2 forms at the same time.... I guess I will see. For some reason even our LEA lead times are increasing now too. Sherriff Joe was gettin' 'em back in about 7 days a few months ago but I have been hearing that I should expect 20 to 30 now. I hope I get to use this stuff at least once before O'bama takes them all away. |
