large game question

Does anyone know how a 7mm WSM would hold up in the large game field? I'm very confident it can take down any deer with relative ease, but what about black bear, moose or something of that nature?

I'd imagine it would work fine. I've seen sites where they rated a 7MM WSM to drop a moose out to 300 yards.

Winchester rates their 7mm WSM cartridges up to CXP3 class game - which includes moose, elk, grizzly.

People have been using the 7x57 for large big game for over a century. Match the right bullets to the right game with the right placement.

I'm certain it would take anything up to elk size. Not sure about moose and grizzly, though. I know it can be done, but it would not be my first choice for either.

The 7MM WSM should be fine for black bear and moose with a strong bullet - Siwft A Frame, Barnes X, Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, something of that nature in 180 or 200 grain. I would opt for a bigger gun if you go after frizzly or brown bear.

I use a .30-06 with 180 grain Barnes X for moose, caribou, and black bear, but am looking to get a .338 or something similar to take on a future grizzly hunt.

The 7MM WSM should be fine for black bear and moose with a strong bullet - Siwft A Frame, Barnes X, Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, something of that nature in 180 or 200 grain. I would opt for a bigger gun if you go after frizzly or brown bear.

I use a .30-06 with 180 grain Barnes X for moose, caribou, and black bear, but am looking to get a .338 or something similar to take on a future grizzly hunt.

only 1 problem with this....the 7mm does not come in those wights

same as a 7mm mag. i know a guy who uses a 7mm mag for white tails, mulies, moose, elk, and i think bear too

in theory the 7mmWSM will do everything a 7mm mag will

I am not sure they make 200 grain bullets in 7mm, but the 7mm WSM should work fine for black bear. I would use a good bullet in the 160 grain range like a Sierra GameKing. I know there are some 170 grain 7mm bullets out there but I have not tried them.

I shot 20 rounds of handloaded 150 grain Nosler 7mm WSM today along with 29 rounds of factory 200 grain .338 Win Mag. I am taking both rifles on a cow elk hunt to Colorado in 6 weeks. I plan on using the .338 but will take the 7mm WSM with 160 grain GameKings as a backup.

I was just putting rounds through both rifles just for trigger time and to make sure they are funtioning perfectly. I will shoot at least two more times before the trip with the actual rounds I will be using.
215 grain GAmeKIngs in the .338 and
160 grain GameKings in the 7mm WSM.

I was very happy with how both rifles shot today.

I'm certain any well placed 7mm hunting bullet will down a moose. I've only hunted moose twice which does not qualify me as an expert. But both bulls fell to chest hits from my .308 carbine. During his lifetime my Cree guide toppled several dozen moose and countless caribou with his antique 35 Remington auto-loader. In my opinion, good shot placement and adequate bullet weight are the most important factors in killing big game animals.
