Steel Cased in PTR91 GI?
I have a 16" barrel PTR91 GI. It has the bore with the somewhat oversized and fluted chamber.
It will digest tar sealed ammo but I have yet to try Russian steel case 145 fmj like Wolf WPA, etc....I have a lot of it in X39 for my SKS and it has been very good. Anyone shoot steel case in their PTR? If so, what do you like and dislike about it? I know it's probably dirty but my PTR runs everything dirty not worried about that. Also, while I'm at it, does anyone shoot 175 grain match type ammo in their PTR? If so, any problems with it and how does it perform in your weapon? Any advice or comments ,Thanks, JJ |

after shooting steel cased Russian crap ammo be sure to Brush out your chamber flutes real well before going back to shooting brass case ammo.
I had all kind of extraction issues with brass after shooting Wolf. Brushing out the chamber flutes cured the issue.

Shot a bunch of chinese made steel cased through a student's rifle last time I was in Africa. He thought a short barreled 91' was suitable for a long range precision class. It was not regardless of the ammo he selected. The chinese stell cased stuff functioned fine as far as fire, eject, load. It was horrific as far as accuracy went (tightest group was 10moa) and there were visible differences in the marking on the cases from the chamber flutes. Some cases had no markings, most did. I'll never put that garbage in a western gun again. It's fine in the combloc rattle traps but not in western guns IMO. It's perfectly safe, just garbage quality. We did try some 168gr match loads from it and they cycled fine but didn't group well enough to do the class with. Had to find him a loaner rifle instead.
