S&W 627-0

Saw this shiny heavy unfluted S&W revolver for sale at a gun show two weeks ago. Price in US$ was 975.- and it has a wodden case with it.

I tried to talk them down by $ 100 but they wouldn’t budge. One guy said it was on consignment so they couldn’t touch the price. The other one said that was the purchase price they paid so he could not lower it.

Typical gun show bs where two guys from the same booth will tell you two different stories.

Anyway I decided to sleep on it, and see if it would still be in their shop a few days later. It was. I bought it.

Picked it up yesterday, brought it home, fondled it a bit. Can wait to shoot it. With everything from stout magnum loads to .38 SPL WC

Your Korth was definitely a beauty but the S&W 27 is one of my favorite guns that I'd have a realistic chance of owning.

I actually had a chance to get one practically new in box in 1978 for $300. Dithered about getting it. Decided to buy it and due to unforseen circumstances wasn't able to get back to it. Heavy sigh.

Don't know if I'd rather have an S&W 27 or a Colt Python. It's one of those questions that gets debated a lot.

I'm pretty sure you'll really enjoy your S&W 27. Please be sure to come back and post what you think of it after you shoot it. Your posts are always very interesting.

I never knew the 627 was ever made with a full underlug like a 686.

If that beauty had a 4" bbl, I'd be salivating in jealousy.

Beauty right there! And from 1989, ... which means it's sans the always dreaded Hillary Hole.

Wow! According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, they only 4998 of that model.
Beautiful revolver.

Look at it this way; it came with a $250 set of grips, so you really got it (and the presentation case) for only $725.
Honestly, I'm surprised it was still there "days later".

Are those grips really worth that much? I have a set that came on my 686 but they didn't fit my large hands very well so I took them off...

Yes, the originals are. I got really lucky and found a nice set for $150 about a year and a half ago but that was a bargain.

How can one tell if they're original? The ones I have do have the S&W logo and look just like those...

Repros can look very similar to the originals but there are subtle differences. I am not the expert to go to, unfortunately.

I'll dig them out and post a couple pix. The revolver they came on belonged to my brother and he passed away more than 20 years ago. If I had to guess, the grips are around 30 years old. I don't recall if he got them later or if they came on the gun.

At 25 meters off hand that's better than most people could do if they were honest.

I've never seen checkering on top of the frame before. Looks like custom work.

Checkered top strap was standard on Model 27s, going back to the Registered Magnum, and pre Model 27s.

I believe it’s a standard feature of all models 27
