You haven't noticed any markings on the gun, either.
Chokes don't restrict the bore. You can see down the barrel of any choked gun. You still haven't told us the bore size. |

Choke constrictions are generally so slight that they're largely invisible to the eye. You often need a caliper to determine if there's a choke in the barrel if it's not marked.

sounds like your gun is NOT the select choke system. as mentioned before, Mossberg did make a gun with interchangeable chokes, such as yours. marks should be on the left rear of bbl.

So I found a box of 410. Was able to get one into the chamber. Felt as if it seated correctly. Put one in magazine. Pushed bolt forward and it picked up the round and put it in the chamber. I then pulled back on the bolt and the round was extracted correctly. I was only able to get three into the internal magazine. Not sure if that is the correct amount, but it didn't feel like I could get one more in. I'm going to try and find a local gunsmith to look at it and see if it's safe to shoot.

3 sounds about right for the internal box magazine. Don't know about the 20, but the 16s and 12s only held 2 in their mags (which also made them Fed Migratory bird compliant)

I didn't notice. I'll have to look at the area around the safety. I did figure out how the safety worked. Knew it had to have one and there's this lever looking piece behind the bolt. Wasn't a lever. It moved side to side. Pushed it sideways, pulled the trigger. Nothing. Pushed it back and the trigger moved back and click.
I quess I would like to know if there are any manuals around to take it apart to clean and lube. Might want to try and refinish the wood also. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk |

open the bolt, pull the trigger, pull the bolt out. its that simple. just make sure you don't twist the bolt after you take it out. it must realign going in....with the trigger pulled as it does.

As you can see in the picture I got the bolt out. Put it in my ultrasonic cleaner with Otis cleaning fluid. For about two hours with heat. Quite a bit of crap was in the bottom of the tank. I'm going to do a further clean more detailed clean. Is there any further takedown?

Remember not to use steel shot in this gun, as it may bulge the barrel.

So yesterday I decided to work on getting this gun apart. The biggest screw on the bottom was the toughest. Had to put a little bit of Kroil on it and let it soak. Looks like this gun had been apart a few times. All of the screw's have been buggers up. Did that on last Thursday. Had to put the stock in a vise to hold it still. Then used a screwdriver with a wrench to help in turning force to get it loose. Two other wood screws and she was separated. Any ideas on what the wood is? I sanded it a little. Almost feels like plastic. But I know from its age that it can't be. And any ideas on how to finish both the wood and metal parts?

Could be walnut. If not, it is a hardwood. Linseed oil was once used on walnut to finish stocks. You could rub those scuff marks with a drop of linseed oil.
Safety note: Linseed oil is "chemically active", plastizes wood, and has been proven to spontaneously combust, when stored in contact with diesel fuel. Rags with linseed oil, tossed inside a shop vac, later used to vacumn a diesel spill, wait 12-24 hours, caused a fire at a huge datacenter.

I do remember rubing down the stock of my dad's 30-06 with linseed oil. I did do a light sanding with I think 150 grain sandpaper and it turned that lightish gray color. Probably have to sand the whole thing down to make it match. And then find a small can of linseed oil to finish it. Then on to the metal parts. I have never finished a gun before so haven't got a clue where to start.

the gun in its aged look, is classic. I wouldn't bugger it up one bit. clean it. oil it. shoot it. enjoy it.
