Refinish stippled oiled walnut Nill grips
I just received a new set of stippled walnut Nill grips. They are light blonde. While very nice for a stainless gun, I want to use these with an old blued gun. They need to be darker, much darker. I need to understand how to remove the oil and what type of stain I should use. I would appreciate your help, thanks

Well, first realize that many so-called "oil" finishes are satin or semi-gloss polyurethane finish. Choose a finish remover. I use Citristrip, you can use any good finish remover you can find at the hardware store. A good finish stripper will remove anything up to and including epoxy finish. Apply stripper, wait, wipe or scrub to remove finish, repeat, rinse, let dry, sand lightly, stain with penetrating stain, reapply finish.
