The Kimber SIS .45acp line....
I read a online firearms industry media item about the Kimber "SIS" line.
The article stated Kimber America ended the SIS .45acp pistol line as of Jan 01, 2010. The 1911a1 models, co-designed by the detectives(D-1/D-2/D-3) of the elite SIS unit, got a lot of buzz in the shooting sports industry & gun press. Elected officials & a few LAPD brass didn't want the SIS to have a special sidearm with logos and press articles describing this once covert squad. I can see the point. The SIS or Special Investigations Section IDs and tracks down violent, dangerous felons & conducts undercover/special operations for the LAPD. They are all highly trained detectives who avg 12-15 years of service with spotless records. The SIS is run by one LT & they work cases together. To my knowledge, the SIS issues the Glock 21 .45acp & they often carry the Glock 36 & 30(30SF) as a 2nd gun/back-up. Glock also brought out the 30S .45acp based on feedback from the SIS detectives. I think the LAPD & Glock took a more low key approach to the new 30S pistol. CF |
