7MM REM MAG Load data

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm trying to develope a load for my Father-in-law for a guided whitetail hunting trip in Kansas. He wants a 7mag load that will stay in a 5 in circle out to 300 yards. By my calculations he need a 140 grain bullet to be traveling at about 3200-3300 FPS from the 26 in barrel of his Thompson Pro-Hunter. On hand I have Benchmark, IMR 4895 and IMR 3031.
I would like to avoid buying another powder just to load 40 or so purpose built rounds for a specific hunt.
Anyone know a load using these powders that will get me in the 3200-3300fps ballpark safely from a 26 in single shot Thompson.
Thanks
Jason

You're gonna have to load a few sets of bullets using those powders, guided by reputable handbooks to see what that rifle likes. You don't necessarily have to start by looking for a given velocity. The highest velocity is not necessarily the most accurate. I killed a mule deer in Wyoming last year at 410 yards with a 130gr bullet in .270 and it was going about 3000 fps. You can sight in, dead on, at 200 yards and generally you'll find most calibers will be in a 5-6 drop at 300 yards. I've done this with .270, 7mm Rem Mag, 7mmSTW, .30 WSM, .270WSM and .338 Win MAg. THe bullets weights were 130-160-160-150-130-215. If you want a 5-inch circle at 300 yards, sight in dead-on at 300 yards.

THat said, my Hornady and Speer books tell me:

Hornady :150gr REM SPCL (no 140 listed for your powders)
IMR4895 MAX= 52.0gr (2880 fps)
IMR3031 MAX= 51.0gr (2850 fps)

Speer: 145gr There is no load listed for your powders

You're gonna have to buy some powder. I've had good luck with H1000 in my 7mmRM.
