223 Rem and Unique or Clays
Anyone tried using fast buring pistol powder such as Clays or slightly slower stuff like Unique for lighter 223 loads?? Anything in 2000fps or so range.
Any info appreciated, btw, I'm planning on using once-fired brass, CCI primers and 55 grain FMJBT bullets. |

I tried a Unique load with a 40gr. bullet, getting close to .22rf levels. Had it down to 1,200 fps, IIRC. Report wasn't as quiet as I expected (sounded like a .22rf. Go figger...) So I dropped the project.
Thanks for reminding me I have a few more fo those to shoot up so I can reload 'em as varmit rounds...

223 loads using Unique
My "city" load for groundhogs is:
55 grain PSP bullet and 5.6 grains of Unique. You can go between 4.0 and 5.0 grains of Bullseye. My 5.6 load is estimated at about 1850fps. |

What about Titegroup?
Any idea if titegroup would work for this and what kind of load?
Curious! FH |

I'm using anywhere from 9.5 to 11.5 grains of blue dot with the 40gr Vmax bullet and getting nice accuracy. Haven't chrono'd it.

Fishhead, since Titegroup is below Bullseye and above Clays on the burn chart, I'd say probably about 4-5 grains as well, should give you similar performance. 918v, simply saying "Blue Dot is better" (without any other pertinent backup data or insight into your thought process and how you came to the conclusion) means nothing. Not an attack on you personally, of course, just a general observation. If you we're talking about using slower burning powder, then I say use Lil'Gun, 2400 or IMR4759...... Madison, thanks for the recipe, I'll be sure to try it out. |

9.0gr Unique, 55gr Rem PSP, R-P cases, WSR primers got me 2181 fps from my 20" AR-15. That load will shoot 1" 10-shot groups at 50 yds from the bench. Won't cycle the bolt though.
