H&R Pardner single shot 410
This shotgun is my son's.
When I told him some .410s could chamber a colt .45 round his curiosity has now been turned on. It is a non rifled barrel, and probably will not hit anything over 25 yards with it, but can it do it, meaning is it safe? |

Several threads here on that topic. Might do a search, woop's, didn't he just head out back with a 45-70 round?

Don't do it. Those guns are not built for the tolerance of a 45LC. And even it were, the bore is smooth so it won't be accurate for beans.

Yeah, you might get away with it, but not designed for it and not safe.

Some .410 shotguns can chamber a .45 colt. This is a completely true statement. Some .410 shotguns have even been specifically designed to be able to fire .45 lc cartridges. The problem is that not all of them are, and that just because it fits, it doesn't mean it's safe. Some .410's can chamber .454 Casull. Actually firing it would be a very bad idea.
If your son takes an H&R Pardner that was only intended for .410 shotshells, and fires a .45 cal bullet down a .41 cal barrel into the full choke it probably has, he will have a very bad day. Read the stamp on the barrel. If it doesn't say anything about .45 anything, don't do it. |

Cool, that was my gut feel as well.
He can just play with one of the others if he wants a bigger gun feel, no need risking unless it is known to be safe. Thanks. |

The only long gun I'm aware of shooting both .45 Colts and .410 is the Rossi Circuit Judge.
You're son does have an excellent gun though. I have an H&R made Bridge Black Prince in .410 and it was my first shotgun. It's from the '30s if I remember right. Functions perfect. |

It is a hoot, has the interchangeable barrel and does .22lr as well.
Highly recommended as a starter gun for any new shooter. Had it since he was 8, about to outgrow it, but will never get rid of it. |

Check the chamber pressures that a .410 is designed for, vs the .45.
If that doesn't scare you............
