vz 24 serial numbers
I have a vz24 Mauser from BRNO. The serial number 18770 does not have any alpha characters or markings around the receiver ring area. It also has two sling swivels on the front barrel band one on the right side and one at the bottom. How do I determine when it was made?

It could be an OB, the markings could have been omitted. I installed a bull type 308 W barrel on a VZ 24 with out receiver markings. I am checking the length of the chamber in the barrel to determine how much work is going to be required to finish.

The Vz (Vzor or Model) 24 was produced from 1924 until 1942, when the factory was changed over to K.98k production. Rifles made for the Czech Army will have the year of production on the left side of the receiver ring, but ones made for other nations usually don't.
The reason for the double sling swivels is that the VZ 24 is a dual purpose rifle, usable by both infantry (bottom swivels) and cavalry (side swivels), since the cavalry carried their rifles slung at an angle across the back. Jim |
