AR-15

What are your thoughts on the Del-ton D-15 ?The reviews I've read say it comes with a 1:9 barrel but this one had a 1:8 stamped barrel. thanks

My winter EDC is a DelTon 16" carbine w/ 1-9 twist. It shoots bullets up to 60 grains quite well and 50-55 exceptionally well.
I have several 1:8 twist barrels that are adequately accurate but then, I don't shoot bullets heavier than 69 grains.

1:8 is near an ideal twist for the full range of bullets will physically fit in the magazine... short to long.

I never was able to get anything heavier/longer than a 69gr SP out of 20" Colt HBAR w/ a 1-9 twist.
Finally changed it out to a 1-7.7 Krieger and then it shot 77SMKs into a half a dime.

Armelite's M-15/16" carbine comes with a 1-7 twist.
Fast is good.

Do you plan on shooting for fun with it, using it for self defense, or really want it to be accurate past 150 yards? If you answer yes to the first two it will do that just fine. If the last one is important, it could be that accurate but there are other options and barrel twists that will get you there easier.

It's actually for my wife more than me.I'm just not that into AR's and she has said she doesn't want me going hunting hogs alone since my heart surgery but she is recoil sensitive.Accuracy doesn't have to be sensational just a good functional rifle.

The DelTon is that. And w/ the 1:8 twist, it's fairly versatile.
Good on your wife.

postscript: What kind of sight would you wife be using in that situation?

One of the great things with the ARs is how tuneable they are, so if Boss Lady doesnt like the recoil you can very easily swap in a heavier buffer or say a high quality flat wire spring to make it even more easy to shoot.

I don't have a Del-ton AR but I have bought parts from them and they are a great company. They will help you and nothing is too small. Del-ton ARs have a great reputation for quality at an affordable price.
