10mm confilcting data for 155 grain XTP and 800X

I'm looking through my reloading manuals looking at the data for this combination of bullets and powder. Hornady's 9th edition manual has a max powder charge of 11.5grains with the 155 grain XTP for 1350 fps. Lyman's 49th and Hogdgon 2016 list a max load of 9.8 grains with velocities of 1315 and 1350 fps. All the velocity numbers come from 5" barrels.
I worked my way all the way up to 10.5 grains and stopped. I was getting smeared primers and slight case bulging. I didn't have my chronograph, but I could tell that It was too much.
So what's the deal with Hogdon's numbers? Did they get a slow batch of 800X? Does 11.5 grains not sound excessive for this bullet? 10.5 grains seemed excessive to me. Hornady also lists a max load for bluedot of 12.9 grains with the 155 XTP, but Lymans tops out at 10.8 grains. That's a huge difference are Hornady's max loads dangerous?

The differences in different manuals will almost always vary. It can be attributed to different barrels (diameters), different lots of powder, case make, seating depth, primers or bullets.
This is why, whenever you change any component, you start low and work up the load looking for accuracy before reaching the maximum load. There is rarely any reason to exceed maximum listed loads - even without any signs of excessive pressure.

I use 800x for heavier projectiles. I found it a bit slow for the 155gr bullets. I use AA#7 for my 155gr Gold Dot loads, and get 1400fps easily. I am firing them out of an EAA/Tanfoglio Stock 1, which can handle a bit more pressure than the Glock 20, in general. 11.5gr of 800X seems slightly high, but I use 9.7gr under a 200gr XTP for about 1250 fps. What gun are you shooting these out of?

I have a Witness compact and and a Glock 29. The witness is undersprung so I baby it. I run the hotter stuff through the Glock 29 with a 21 lb recoil spring and a 4.6" LW barrel.
