Local arrest that got my attention real quick

http://www.nj.com/reporter/index.ssf...igned_man.html

man was arrested near my college campus for being suspicious. He was wearing body armor and strapped a bushmaster 5.56 to himself but modified it to take 50cal

Also had grenade launcher and lots of ammo in motel room along with maps to military base.

Some "interesting" or inconsistent reporting there...

.50cal "assault rifle"--the only way I know of would be to take a full-auto M16/M4 (or pre-86 FA AR-15) and put a .50Beowulf upper on it.
...why do I suspect that was not the case?

It was not a fully automatic rifle, but a semi-automatic 5.56 rifle that had a .50 AE top end put on it (according to one news report - that could be bogus scoop also, however...).

According to news reports he had defaced the serial number of the rifle.

Sounds like a troubled dude.

Its not like its a false report bud..Somehow he was able to make it possible. Good thing he decided not to fire or couldn't get the gun out or the officers chasing would have been in trouble.

Unless there's more to this than meets the eye, reports of crimes and/or arrests do not make the grade for discussion.... Where's the legal or civil rights angle?
