YES!! I now have a reason to post here!!

Just bought a 2nd hand never been fired Mossberg MMR Hunter. Still has factory grease oozing out of seams. Original owner ordered it and decided he wanted a carbine. Win for me.

I was originally wanting a carbine as well, but now that I hold this thing, I'm thinking it deserves a scope and a bipod. I'll buy another upper for it whenever they become available again. Just a happy boy and wanted to share.

1:9 twist; 60-75 grain right? I've been picking up range brass for weeks. Set of dies on the way.

Congrats on the new purchase. Hope you got a decent deal with all the madness going on. To answer your question, 1:9 twist I would recommend 55-69gr ammo. You can try and see how it shoots 75gr, you may be alright but that is usually considered a little on the heavy side for that twist.

Cool... I have a 1x7 twist that shoots several factory brands loaded with 40gr V-Max into less than an inch. It's worth trying. They are a tad cheaper and extremely fast/flat shooting.

And thanks for the bullet weight recommendation. Gives me a place to start (assuming I find any).

i concur, i own a couple 1-7 & 1-9 from different makers, i took 6 AR style carbines to the range and fired the exact same loaded rounds in them at 100 yds. there was so much variation in bullet impact that most people would not believe the difference, and believe me, there is a huge difference.

i used a Colt, 1-7, 1-9, Bushmaster, 1-9, 1-7 and LWRCI, 1-7, LWRC, 1-9 each one of those guns printed good results, BUT !! different.

oooooh !! i forgot to mention, all rounds were my reloads using LC brass CCI 400 primer and Ramshot TAC, i also repeated the test using Win.748.
someday i might try the test once more with BLC-2, CFE-223, & Ramshot X-TERMINATOR.

i enjoy trying different loads in different guns, i have found the nearly perfect load for 5 different AR-15 type carbines

Good info Powderkeg; thanks! I just ordered a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 AO and a set of QD Warne ultra high rings; hope those are the right height. Seems like it's always kind of a guess with these things.

Me too. Mine is a High Standard AR-15 A-2. I like the rifle, it is similar to what I carried in 88-90 in the Army. I got 3 -20 round mags and my nephew had brought 4 30 round mags home from the Army so I'm set for a while.

I had a Bushmaster A2 target rifle 10 years ago. Lost it in a divorce. It was a 20" as I recall. Probably looked just like it. Went out today. Actually found ammo in a few Lexington stores. Couldn't find anything in the 60-70gr range. Got some 50 gr American eagle, some 77 gr Matchkings, and some 55 gr zmax. As soon as my scope and rings show up... Time to play!

I got lucky also...

Decided I wanted to do a precision AR just for fun and quicker follow up shots on Coyotes etc. Ordered a lower and built the lower half on thanksgiving day. Ordered the upper around Dec 15th and Ordered the scope yesterday.
Spikes Tactical Stripped Lower
Rock River Arms LPK with NM 2-stage trigger
Moe grip with laser etched Punisher
Magpul ACS stock (mil-spec) planned on building another with PRS stock but prices may delay that so I am using this and hoping to get a shorter 14.5" upper with pinned flash hider as well. Plus my son can adjust the stock down for his carcus to shoot it more comfortably.
DPMS buffer tube and spring (mil-spec)
Rock River A4 upper 24" bull Wylde chambered
It appears I barely beat the ban-freak pricing hikes. I only paid $125 for my stripped lower. $132 for LPK. $608 for complete Upper. $70 for stock and $70 for buffer tube and spring. Made it easier to order the Vortex Viper 6.5-20X50 for it yesterday with BDC redical. Burris PEPR mount. And I always see guys saying they need pics for proof so here you go... No scope yet as I just ordered it yesterday
