Savage 24 O/U 12/223

Here is one for you shotgun guys - my friend bought a used (very good shape) Savage 24 O/U 12ga/223. Took it out and fired some Silver bear 223 and after 3-4 rounds it failed to open - now he is stuck with a nice Savage 24 CLUB - any suggestions?

Thank in advance JB

I believe that the Model 24F was the only one to offer the .223/12 gauge combination.

Is he able to turn the latch lever? If the latch lever turns the gun can be opened by turning the lever while smacking it over the knee or a padded surface at the hinge pin. If the lever does not want to turn, do not force it: Try to get some oil or WD-40 to the latch by adding oil to the top of the receiver/barrel junction.

Worked on two of these guns that locked up, both had .223 caliber barrels. Was able to get both of them open. The hinge pin cannot be driven out because there is a crosspin.

hook it up to an ultrasonic jiggler & rotate 90 degrees with new oil squirted every 2-6 hours & see what happens. Try to get some past the extractor to the case, too.

Not an expert but the only Savage 24F's I've ever heard of were .22 RIMFIRES.

The Savage 24 I own in .223/12g is a 24V.
