Good choice in cleaning product please
I have been away from shooting for a while but am back into it again. Does anyone have a favorite product for general cleaning (barrel, etc) which is quick and easy to use? Thanks for any suggestions.
Would also like to know about a lube product which doesn't attract a lot of dirt, dust etc. |

I have three non-toxic CLP favorites right now and can't say which one I like best so I keep them all around: Ballistol - the original CLP and Frog Lube and Gunzilla. These are all great non-toxic products that work

I'm a fan of Gunzilla. As for a dry lube, I have heard
that Militec has a product that goes on wet then the carrier evaporates, leaving a dry part on the metal. |

Quick and easy is a no brainer CLP it cleans and lubes all in one . I use Hoppe's #9 for the bore and any other high carbon area . Then clean everything else with CLP. Then depending on what firearm it is I will use anything from CLP , Frog lube or Slip 2000 EWL 30 to lube moving parts .

Hoppe's #9 for the bore. Switching over to Shooter's Choice and/or Hoppe's (Elite?) bore foam stuff when I run out.
I use Eezox on the entire gun. Then I use TetraGrease on everything that slides or on the locking lugs on my 1911s. Eezox is one of, if not, THE best corrosion preventatives and is an excellent lubricant. It also resists fingerprints, dust, dirt, etc. You use both products sparingly.

There are a couple of recent, good threads on this topic in Gear & Accys.
Let's take it there. |

For general bore cleaning I use Dexron transmission fluid.

"Eezox is one of, if not, THE best corrosion preventatives"
Testing has demonstrated it is the best at preventing corrosion/rust. |

And you're ALWAYS going to have someone state their "tests" have proven 'X' product is best.
That's why I was careful with the wording of my statement.

I keep my mind open, but from what I have seen Eezox is the best. I don't use it, but what other product will provide better rust prevention? I would like to know. I have not seen it. I live in the desert so rust is less of a consideration.

This is what I found and confirms my "opinion."
Eezox is THE best corrosion preventative http://www.perfectunion.com/vb/produ...-compared.html http://www.6mmbr.com/corrosiontest.html http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...Number=1236786 I have yet to see Eezox bested head to head. Last edited by jmortimer; December 2, 2012 at 10:59 PM. |

Here's another vote for Wipe-Out and Patch-Out. Not only are they odor free as they don't contain ammonia, it is safe to leave these two products in the barrel overnight. Just spray or swab it in the barrel, leave it overnight, then patch it out the next day. No more scrubbing with brushes, no odor.

Come on, nobody else uses automatic transmission fluid for a cleaner/gun oil?

CLP can be left in the barrel overnight, it is even recommended. the next day repeat to get the stuff loosened overnight. Cleans, Lubricates & Preserves.

M-Pro 7 Bore Gel for cleaning the barrel and Break Free CLP to protect the metal from corrosion. The main reason is that M-Pro 7 not only works very well but it smells good enough to that you can clean in your kitchen without getting in trouble with SWMBO . I store it in the fridge to keep it extra thick.

CLPs Brownells...
There are a few top CLPs out there; Gunzilla LPX Weaponshield Ballistol.
Don't use a lot. A small bottle should last you with regular use. Check Brownells too. They sell a lot of great gun cleaning & gun care products. Clyde www.mpro7.com www.gunzilla.us www.brownells.com |
