Stinky holster

I recently ordered a military flap holster for my Webley revolver. It is a nice looking holster but it smells to high heaven. The smell is chemical. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the smell that won't ruin the leather? There are no markings on it but I wouldn't be surprised if it was made in China

Thanks,
John

Stinky holster

Get a large box of baking soda and bury the holster in it.

After several days sniff it and reapply if needed.

If this is not a collectors item, then use some good leather dressing
on it and enjoy.

I've used Pecard in the past on my boots and climbing belt and it keeps
things supple. http://www.pecard.com/store.php/

The chemical smell is the solvents in the leather treatment. Without those chemicals, the leather would quickly deteriorate. Leave the holster in an open-air environment, so that the chemicals don't build up in the room. The smell will slowly dissipate after a few days.

FYI - I bought a belt from a high-dollar holster manufacturer, and it had the same problem. New holster leather smells that way, at first. It will go away. Just give it time.

Thanks for the feedback folks. It has been out in the garage for a few days and the smell seems to be going away. Of course, the cat is not amused

Of course, if the cat gets seriously annoyed, it might add to the odor.

Is it the same smell you get at every Military Surplus store in the country? At first I like the smell, but then it really gets my head spinning.
