bending jig
Dear Shooter:
You'll be far, far better off to just buy a Romanian AK. The thikness of the steel in the AK would need a full size "press-brake" to form! Although the AK is a combat rifle with a 40 rd. mag in it it weighs more than a Garand. I wouldn't even dream of trying to form and make one! Harry B. |

XLT, Have you tried to go to ar15.com? there is a whole fourm dedicated to the AK. You will probably get more info then you really need. I have to agree with buying a rifle already built. I can say there is a lot of saticfaction to having a rifle or pistol that you have built yourself though. Good luck with your search. Better luck with your build.

You might want to try http://www.gunsnet.net/forums
Oh, and don't let anyone talk you out of building. I have built three with 8 on the way. Fun hobby, very easy. Of course I use 100% receivers. Are you going with a screw build or rivets?

That's ok, I'm used to the naysaying. You should have seen the flustered posts when I asked a few months ago about heat treating in a forge.
Gee whiz, you would've thought I asked if it was possible to fly to Mars in a Dixie cup. Anyway, I have built AK's on a 100% receiver. I have the tooling for this already. I have only done rivet builds, no screws here. I have a ceramics kiln (and a forge ), and a press. Just lacking the jig. With a Romy kit, even with a 100% receiver, price hovers around $200 for the build. Looking to trim some fat off of that. For those that are interested in helping...I am looking for something along the lines of the jig at www.dpharms.com I have looked at ar15.com, but they won't let you register with a free email address, which currently is the only one I have. Thanks, XLT |
