Llama Mini Max .45

The finish on the slide of this gun is really messed up. I'm trying to figure out if was SS and has gone bad? Or was once blued and it's messed up. It's not rusted it's just a mess and looks pretty ugly.
If someone can tell me what kind of finish the mini max had and can tell me what I must do to restore it, maybe I can turn it from being an ugly duckling to a nice swan?
The serial # starts with a 71-04.
I'd like to change the grips as well and don't know where to go. Help?

I only ever saw blued ones, but there may have been plated or SS ones.

Same here, but I'd like to fix this one up.

How does it shoot? If it doesn't shoot any better than a couple I have seen, just trade the duckling and forget about making it a swan.

Llama never made a stainless gun. The Max series was either Parkerized or a chrome process called satin chrome. They also had polished chrome. Here's a link to a discussion about this process.

I have several of the satin chrome and it wears very well. Very strong finish. Without seeing pictures it's hard to tell what you have/had.

Llama grips are pretty common but are hard to find for the Minimax series. Here's a link for factory repros if you just need new grips.

Hopefully you get your Llama to where you are happy. These are nice little guns for the money.
