I use Elmers white glue. It works well but I don't know how long they will store with it.

Very interesting post! It's nice to see someone put so much effort into teaching something like this.

Here's my 10g brass shell loading kit. For the "shot collar", I used segments of coin wrappers for some reclaimed shot that I couldn't get completely clean - other than that, I don't use them. Then to seal the overshot card, Elmer's carpenter's glue. Buy a gallon, and it's a LOT cheaper than the little bottles.

I reload brass with black powder for 12 and 20 gauge. I get the best pattern without a big wad between the powder and shot. I just use two 1/8" over powder nitro card wads between powder and shot (YMMV). Over the shot I use wads cut from 3/16" particle cork squares like you can get at hobby stores. The ones without a sticky side. The cork wads can also be used as spacers under the shot, if you like the shell to have a full look (I don't particularity care). The over-shot cork gets held in place with elmers white glue (it takes more than you'd think). It helps to use some medium sandpaper to slightly rough up the first half inch or so of the inside of the brass before loading. Elmers glue doesn't hold well to smooth brass, and if left for a few months the wad will slide around (more so with over-shot cards than the cork though). I can never find a cork wad after shooting, and I think they break up into their particulates upon firing.

Well that's a novel use of fingernail polish. I bought a bottle to mark my tools (so I can reclaim it if someone borrows it.

Fingernail polish comes off. I mark mine with a bench grinder.

As noted earlier...I use Duco cement. I have tried Elmers, waterglass, silicone, pine tar. Duco works the best.

Duco is just too costly for what it does. IMHO.

Too costly? Yikes. You use maybe two drops per shell....one tube does a whole lotta shells and it is more durable than any of the others.

I guess if I'm going to make shells and keep them around for a couple years, then duco might be the answer, but, I use them up pretty quick.

i have just used my first glue gun, WOW!! it is fast, instant hardening, no smell like fingernail polish, just do it go out side and shoot. if you use it on other than brass hulls, plastic it does tend to melt the plastic.

HAWG, if you roll crimp them why do you have to use ELMER'S white glue also?

I don't have to. I just do it to seal them off.

I occasionally do the same when bored & stuck indoors occasionally. 410 only. Never used black powder. Although I do have reloading info for its use.
I stick with smokeless as it's loading are very reliable shot after shot and no worry of corrosion forming in or on my Iver Johnson Champion is a major concern to me.

I happen to find a item (link) and inquired and told it works well for shot card gluing w/ brass I thought may interest ya'll. Never cared to use fingernail paint. "Could never count on a good hold or seal staying put."

I some time back decided I no longer had a need for Mag Tec 2-3/8" brass. Tried fired forming 303 British to 410 ga. and finally ended up with these (link) to satisfy my need for 3" 410s. My experience's:
"3" brings home table fair. 2-3/8" use only teaches better stalking skills."

Interesting thread. I have about 125 20ga brass hulls my GF loaded many years ago. I have had them for 30 years. They are sealed with water glass and the seal still looks good to me. I have never fired any of them. Some have been fired and the others are loaded. I have no idea what brand they are. I haven't looked at them in years.

As for the wax seal there is to be a guy that sold wax to be used as gas checks in handgun loads. I found the same wax sheets on ebay. Maybe they would work in place of the home made seals. They are much thinner.

As to the glue for sealer try some of the Weldbond. Here is a link to WM but I buy it at Hobby Lobby for a little less.

I build RC model airplanes and this is my hands down number one choice for glue. I have been using this glue for a couple of decades and never had a problem with it and it is a very versatile adhesive. You will never buy Elmers again.
