.40 S&W ... will SWC bullets feed OK ?

I ordered some 155gr hard cast bullets, hard cast SWC for my 40s&w. Anyone had feed issues? thought of this after I ordered.

My grandpaw loads swc in his .40. At first he had alot of trouble with them feeding but he was still useing the C.O.L. for a round nose. When he seated the wadcutters to the C.O.L. listed for hollowpoints the gun worked fine. As always when chainging anything drop your powder charge a bit and work back up. You should be fine but better safe then sorry.

I've shot thousands of them(Missouri Bullet IDP #9) out of my XD and never had any issues except if you don't seat the bullets deep enough. Then they will hang up in the magazine.

Start with the bullet seated longer so when the round is dropped into the barrel ( barrel is out of the gun) it does not seat. Then adjust the bullet seater a little at a time until the round chambers. Then measure the OAl and make a few rounds for test firing to see if they function. Thats my method for determining my OAL and what will work in my guns.

How high is up?
Best answer would be probably, but even knowing what gun you're trying to use them in wouldn't help much to answer your question as manufacturing tolarances vary and one might and the next might not.

Might work; test.

But most highly recommend you maintain an OAL of 1.115" up to 1.135".
And do NOT try to 'hotrod' 40 S&W ammo using Titegroup.

I have used the 155 g LRN in my SR40c and they shot very well.
For range use they may become my favorite.
These were loaded with 5.7 gn of IMR PB and seated at 1.160 OAL
They shot better than my standard load of Power Pistol at 7.2 gn and a 165g plated FP.

WESHOOT2 ???

please explain your comment:

I am using 5.2gr of titegroup and my first test round is OAL 1.122" with my target OAL of 1.125" would you consider this a hotrod load?

thanks

gladly

Shorter than 1.115" can create excessive pressure; longer than 1.135" may not fit many magazines.

If your 5.2g load is "in spec", your OAL is fine fine fine. I mean, if it feeds

I've normally set the OAL of 'generic' 40 S&W at 1.130"+/-.005".

It will depend on your gun, my G23 and 35 with KKM barrels will eat 170gr SWC Missouri bullets like candy, but I can't say all others will.
