places to shoot IPDA or USPSA in rockland county NY
so im a transplant from texas and am still in the process of obtaining a pistol premit . I would like to get involved in some practical pistol competitions but, i cant find anything less than an hour from rockland county.
Does anyone have any reccomendations? obviously nothing in the city that would be a whole nother round of breaucracy i couldnt handle. on a side note is it legal to take a gun to a range in NJ? because my house is about 3 blocks from the jersey border. Try the IDPA site and check for local clubs in NY and NJ, call the the match directors and they may have knowledge of small local ranges where you can compete.

Not in Rockland
Try the Dutchess Co. Pistol Assoc.. It is, however, as you noted, about an hour from you. Nice facility.
http://www.dcpistol.org/ As to competitions and legality: if the competition is a registered match and you have proof that you are entered in it, you may cross state lines legally. Pete

my friend
He's the Dutchess County club USPSA mucky-muck; they have grand USPSA matches, with new big plans for '09.
If you want e-mail me direct for further info on getting ahold of said mucky-muck for shooting fun. (Also a USPSA club in Freeport, but its facility is 'different'.)
