What is Cowboy shooting.

Since I started looking around I've seen reference to "Cowboy loads" and "Cowboy shooting". Exactly is the meaning of all this?

Cowboy Action Shooting a/k/a Single Action Shooting Society which is the organization, is roughly the same as IDPA but with single action "period correct" weapons and outfits.

It's where you dress up like a cowboy and shoot stages with a lever action rifle (pistol caliber), a double barrel or 1897 shotgun, and two single action revolvers. The stages specify the firing sequence, and your time plus five seconds for each miss is your score. 4 to 6 stages for a one day match. The targets are big and close, so just about anybody can hit them if they go slow. The winner will NOT be slow. It's a very friendly sport where your competion is glad to help you. Try it, Griz (SASS 46184)

LOL, that would be more like one of my relatives (George Custer) acting like a jackass.

Russ,
You better sneak up on him, some of us are pretty good with our guns.

Metal Head,
Stop by the newsstand and pick up a copy of the magazine 'Shoot'. It is entirely devoted to Cowboy Action Shooting and will have a lot of good stuff. Pictures, even.
