357 Maximum loads
I have been reloading and narrowing down powder/bullet combinations fore the last year.
Does anyone have a pet load using Hornady 180 XPT bullets? I'm using a T/C Contender with a 14" bull barrel. Thanks.

The Hornady 9th Edition devotes a section on loading the 357 Remington Maximum for the T/C Contender. Using the 180 grain HP XTP and or the 180 grain InterLock SP SSP.
Alliant 2400 17.1 gr. to 19.3 gr. Lil' Gun 16.7 gr. to 21.6 gr. WIN 296 17.1 gr. to 21.0 gr. H110 17.3 gr. to 20.0 gr. IMR 4227 17.5 gr. to 19.0 gr. Viht N-120 19.4 gr. to 21.3 gr. You will get your maximum velocity with Lil Gun and WIN 296 loads Just as a channel check we are referring to the 357 Remington Maximum cartridge. Their test gun was a 10" barrel T/C. I have no idea what the best pet load for your gun might be. I haven't fired the cartridge or loaded it in years but remember being fond of my results with WIN 296 powder. Ron |

Been working with the Max for 10-12 years in both 15" TC Encore and 24" MGM rifle barrel. AA1680 will make the Max sing if you know how to compress powder the right way.

to the max
Thanks for all the info.
I've been reloading for the max for about 6 years and use the 14-inch T/C barrel (Bellm conditioned) for boar hunting. It has always been a one shot kill using 180 Hornady XTP JHP and/or 210 Beartoothe hard cast gas check. Always wondered how this would be in a lever action.

Seems like the factory's would be all over the Max, does a whole lot that the .450 BM can't.

Apparently, commercial sales never built up for it. SAAMI dropped it between their 1993 and 2015 standards. For that reason, reference loads are no longer maintained for it, making it harder for commercial makers to develop loads that will match the industry standard accurately. It would have to garner a huge upsurge in popularity for SAAMI to bring it back, but if such an upsurge occurs, they'll do it.

It will be interesting if the .350 Winchester will run with the Max?
