Is ammo situation getting better?

I haven't been paying much attention lately, but have things been getting any better for availability of .223/5.56 ammo? I noticed parts and magazines have returned close to normal, but supply of ammo and components still appears to be thin.

Depends on where you go seems like the big box stores are still pretty hit and miss, but I was in Palmetto State Armory last week and they were pretty stoked up on 9mm, 40, 45 ACP, 5.56/.223, 308 even 22LR.

I can get factory ammo pretty easily from my distributors and manufacturers. However I cannot seem to get ANY gunpowder at all.

I think it is getting better. Just bought a couple hundred rounds of brass cased 5.56 ammo yesterday, $11/box at LGS and $10/box at sporting-goods store. Magazines are readily available again, although not as cheap as they were before. 9mm FMJ is showing up here and there and actually staying on shelves before disappearing. Hoarders are trying to unload their stashes on Armslist.

We're not out of the woods yet, but supply is catching up and when it does the prices will be back near normal again.

Just look here:

http://www.gunbot.net

Clicking "show in-stock only". The list was about 1/4th of what it is now just a month ago. Things are simmering down quite a bit online. Unfortunately, where I'm at, there's still a lot of empty shelves in the retail stores. Severity varies by geography I'm sure.

When I started shooting 3 months ago my LGS/range rarely had ammo for even range use. Now I can buy as much ammo I want in .40 for range use or to take home @17.99 a box. 9mm/5.56 is still limited to three boxes for range use only.. but that is better than what it was before (none).

Just stopped by Walmart a couple days ago. They have plenty of ammo as long as you need .270 or 12 gauge.

online I've noticed x39 availability picking up and prices falling back to semi normal prices. locally 223 hunting rounds are back in but ball ammo is still non existent. locally 9mm is back to normal.

Walmart here is still empty. Like by empty I mean they have 7mm and .375Magnum. The end.

BUT I finally got my shipment I ordered 2 months ago! 1000 rounds of .40

Hesitant to order another thousand since I'm moving soon....

I'm starting to see some coming back. 9mm, 45ACP.

But not any .223 or .22 in prices I'm willing to pay

But a area store has plenty of 5.45x39mm spam cans

Is ammo situation getting better?

It's getting better in my area, I think most of the panic buyers and hoarders are getting tired of getting up early. I also think most are starting to feel the hit on their pocket book for all this ammo they have sitting in their closet that they don't do anything with.

In my area 22 LR was hard to keep on the shelves before the panic. It will probably be hit or miss for a long, long, long time.

Down in the General Discussions forum, we have a "Where is Everything?" thread. While I realize that this thread has trucked along without incident for several days, we've been trying to limit discussions of the Great Ammo Shortage of 2013 to that thread.

I truly wish everyone well in their searches for ammunition, but let's let this discussion be in the designated thread.
