Walmart Tasco scope

I don't have money for good glass right now but I could buy a tasco no problem. I will be buying a Vortex or Leo but till then I want some cheap glass on my rifle that is otherwise unusable. Its a Custom 10/22 with a 28" barrel.

My only question is Tasco complete crap and would I be wasting money? Or is it worth the risk? Looking at a 3x9 for 40 dollars. Bushnell as a fixed 4 power for 30 dollars but I think I want more zoom. Looking to shoot at 200 yards with this one.

Remember I dont have anything on it so its not even shootable at the moment? I am going out in the next few days and would love to take this gun. No rounds through my new barrel yet

No real experience with Tasco, they have some decently reviewed products though. When you have money for glass, what sort of price range were you thinking?

The Redfield Revolution has my reccomendation if your looking for something in the $170-250 price range. Big fan of the Accu-Range reticle. I own two, and probably will have three sometime in the future.

When I do buy it , about 200 is what I will want to spend. 200-250ish.

I just want something to put bullets down range for right now. I am wondering if that above senario is going to be true or not.

Just keep the receipt, walmart takes returns. It might be ok, but I wouldn't expect it to be great. Nothing to really lose if you look at it like this. Don't forget you probably need mounts for your scope too.

Definitely check out Redfield though, glass in your price range that will do everything you need it to for a 10/22.

All my rifles now wear expensive glass, but when I started out all I could afford was a Tasco for my .22 & a Bushnell for my 22-250. Both these scopes held zero & neither one ever failed. My Zeiss, Kahles & Leupold scopes are clearer, but not enough to matter, with the main benefits of good quality glass being early morning/late afternoon hunting.
I suppose the only advice I'd give is stay away from their base models & go for something mid-range, like the World Class in Tasco, or the Bushnell Trophy series. You will still be able to get a scope for under $100, but spending $30-$40 on a variable scope is asking for trouble in my opinion.

I don't think I want a fixed 4 and honestly I dont want to spend 80 to 100 dollars on a bushnell banner scope that is just going to be "disposable" anyways by next summer at the latest.

Hmmmm decisions decisions

Although not my choice, a Tasco 3-9x40 world class can be purchased for $57 from Optics Planet. This is only $17 more than you indicated you wanted to spend. I've got a mate who has had this scope on a Sako .222 for maybe 8 years plus,& he has no plans to dispose of it. I've hunted with this rifle & while the glass may not be as clear as my Zeiss & Leupolds, it still is good & the rifle holds zero.

The Tasco world class scopes are very good for the money . I had the same issue when I bought my Ruger American rifle . Did not have the cash for a nice scope and a buddy pointed me to the Tasco world class scopes . http://www.amazon.com/Tasco-World-3-...d+class+3-9x40

Here are a couple of my targets I shot using the world class scope on my ruger 308 .

Another good cheep scope for a 22 is the simmons 22mag with the paralax adjustable objective .http://www.amazon.com/Simmons-3-9x32...=simmons+22mag

I would recommend the simmons for a 22 so you can adjust the paralax the tasco has a fixed paralax at 100yards . If your 10/22 is stainless the simmons comes in silver as well .http://www.amazon.com/Simmons-3-9x32...s+22mag+silver that price is a little on the high side right now . I've seen the silver ones for $80 as well

.

Early in my varmint shooting pursuits I had a Tasco 6x24 and it never failed me. It was a bit dim at twilight, but that's the only gripe I ever had.

Ditto on the Wold Class. It's not a Vortex or USO but will do the job for a cheap scope.

I have used the Tasco 3 - 9x50 with no problems so far. It's affordable and does the job well.

I have an 26 year old Tasco World Class on my .243 Savage 110C and have taken deer out to 450 yds. Don't know what Tasco makes now, but I wouldn't be afraid to try one of their scopes.

Refreshing to read a scope thread where people are NOT saying that you have to pay $600 for a scope. I just bought a cheap Savage 110 with a cheap Tasco scope on it. I'll enjoy using the Tasco until it breaks (if it breaks).

No Doug, you definitely need a $600 scope. If you send me the Tasco, I will be able to dispose of it in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

As soon as I buy the $600 scope, I'll contact you to send you the Tasco...but you might be waiting for a looong time.

Don't know anything about tasco scopes currently, but my dad has a 25+ year old tasco 4 power on a rem 700 in 270 that hasn't changed zero in over 25 years. He's shot deer over 200 yards with that scope. I always like to go with the best I can afford, but if I was broke right now I'd try one. Worst thing that can happen is that it's crap and you have to return it. ( hopefully you would find that out before hunting)

Just re read the op. I would definitely stick with a fixed power in a cheap scope. Less parts to fail.

Nothing wrong with the cheaper Tasco for now, what matter is you need to go out and shoot!

When you have the $$ then go upgrade to a nice one. You will most likely end up keeping the Tasco anyway. It will always come in handy as a backup scope. I have about 4 optics right now since I never sell any of my previous cheap ones.

If you don't like it, then you can always return. So try it out and have fun.

Since you are planning to put it on a 22 you shouldn't have to worry about recoil damaging it. The only thing I would worry about is that the stuff sold in Wal-Mart doesn't seem to be the same quality as the same thing sold elsewhere. You should be OK with the Wally World Tasco, for now anyway.

If you only want to spend $200 now is the time to buy a scope. This is the scope you need for a .22 LR especially if you ever plan on using it at an indoor range. Nikon Prostaff EFR 3-9X40, if not that one you at least need a scope with parallax adjustment for a .22 lr especially when you are shooting at short ranges. Most adjust down to 25 yards but scopes made for the rimfire and air rifles will adjust down to much closer ranges.
