Check my Load with Quick Load?
I wonder if one of you with Quick Load could run this load for me and tell me my pressure? This load is:
45 ACP 200 gr hardcast lead, .452, SD is 140, BC is .063 8.0 gr of Power Pistol PMC Brass Fed 150 LP Primers 1.215 OAL I hope that's enough info. Ask if you need more, and thx in advance! |

QuickLoad isn't great with straight-wall cases but it can certainly give you an estimate.
Case length, case capacity in gr H2O and bullet length would be helpful. |

16,230 psi, 974fps from 5" barrel
Pretty inefficient. 74% powder burn.

How about 9 gr of Power Pistol?
I'm trying to stay below 30K with efficiency. |

30k!? As in, thousands of psi? Good Lord, man. What are you shooting these in? Oh, and what IS your barrel length?

A 5.5" Ruger Blackhawk. They're rated for 40K because they're chambered in 44 Mag. I'm only really trying to reach 1100 fps. That shouldn't be too hard.
What did 9.0 gr say? It is a Ruger only load. |

CAUTION: The following post includes loading data beyond currently published maximums for this cartridge. This loads are unpublished and "Ruger Only". Never attempt to use these loads in a firearm designed for 45acp. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Neither the writer, The Firing Line, nor the staff of TFL assume any liability for any damage or injury resulting from use of this information.
9.0gr shows at 21,351psi, 1115fps from 5.5" If you're interested, it appears that Red Dot would be an excellent choice to meet your goal. 6.2gr would be 94% case fill, 100% burn with 40.9% ballistic efficiency (which is excellent, 28% is pretty good), develops 30,176 psi and 1,113fps.

All right, now your talking. That sounds good. 21K & 1115? That's even lower than I thought it would be and puts me right where I want to be.
Red Dot huh? I used one pound of it before. The LGS stocks it, I'll pick up a pound and give that a go too. My PMC brass is heavier than my 45 Super brass so I'm using it. Thanks, Brian. |
