If you clean it up how are you going to find anything?

Thats right!
My screwdrivers are under the dust on the workbench. The files are under the metal filings near the grinder. My sizing dies are under the spilled gun powder next to the press. The chisels are under the wood shavings.
Why would I clean it up?!

I can relate Doc. My shop is a mess too. I tell my wife that if I clean it up, I won't be able to find anything! Lol. Still....gotta force myself to clean it up soon as I heal up from my spine surgery....which came out great so far. Up and walking again, but light duty only, no lifting or doing much of anything. Rats, I'm itching to get out in the shop and do some work on my designs, but all I can do right now is design in my head or on paper.

As Ronald Reagan said,"Well..."
...I cleaned up the shop.

Got the remainder of the parts in from Al Frasca
All of the parts came in from Al Frasca.
I had to make a pin for the cam latch spring. Also had to turn down the firing pin screw. It appears the screw is from some other source and is not exactly the right size to let the cam lock seat properly. Photos at eleven. Also got the word back from Keith Rush (Trapdoors Galore) regarding any history on serial number 485521. Unfortunately there is no record of that particular rifle. The serial number before and after went to Illinois but no record of this rifle. He said, all he could tell is that it is a rifle. I said, "Not any more."

Here are the final photos
This is the plunger I made for the cam latch spring.
My other trapdoors don't have such a plunger but the springs are a little longer and stronger. I think this spring is not from a Trapdoor mayby not from a rifle at all. Cut it on the lathe Here it is in the breach block

Last ones
I probly could get away with a little work on the barrel band to make it match the rest of the rifle better.

Doc:
I've found that one does not age when working in one's shop, although my significant other threatens my life when I over extend my shop sessions. As an aside, I'm always amazed at the classical, functional lines of the trap door carbine. same goes for the old Colts and Remingtons. They were all works of art. Your project is looking good. |

Thanks, CP
I agree with you on the designs of these weapons.
In a previous post I said that I like the Trapdoor over the Sharps carbine for user friendliness. I think I need to qualify the statement by affirming that it is only true with modern brass case ammunition. But I do love working on all of these things.

Doc,
Thanks for posting the photos! And nice job on both by the way. I looked for a "cheap" trapdoor at the gun show today. No such luck! TK |

TK.....
I was at a show today as well. It was a bust. Nobody had anything I wanted.
So I bought some ammunition. 100 rounds of .44 Magnum, 100 once fired .44 Magnum Brass. Bout a half dozen bullet boxes.

I should have said I was looking for a project rifle like Doc's. I did find Lee-Enfield I might go back tomorrow and make an offer on. I need a new project. I found some 30-40 Krag dies, so I was happy. Ammo prices are still blowing my mind, but everything normal was plentiful.
