Seating a Magazine Tube
Can someone explain how to properly seat a new magazine tube into the receiver of my Ithaca 37. I unscrewed the old one to have the receiver blued and bought a new one to install. Any help would be appreciated.

Huh? Doesn't it screw in the same way the old one screwed out? You will need a strap wrench though, and be careful not to crush that tube as it is fairly thin.
Remember, you are not dealing with a barrel, so don't overtorque, just a good snug fit should be enough. Jim |

You don't need a wrench of any kind . Just put a dab of Lok Tite 242 on the threads , hold receiver firmly and screw in with both hands till snug and you're good to go . Even a strap wrench will dent the tube !

Thank you for the replies. I was told that the mag tube had to be "seated" in the receiver or the shells won't load properly. That's why I asked first.

Clean any bluing process residue from receiver screws. Very lightly oil to prevent rust and do same for new tube. Screw in hand tight. Screw on mag cap and then gently tap with wood handle or plastic tool handle. Hand tighten once more and repeat tapping. Avoid loc-tite until you verify that gun will feed ok.
Re-assemble. You may choose not to use the loc-tite. |

"Seated" means that there is NO...
gap between the tube and receiver, that can catch a rim.
That transition MUST be smooth, both ways, as you load the shell into the mag and the action receives as it cycles. |
