Fitted My First Thumb Safety Colt 1911 22 (Walther)
Well, I finally got around to changing out the Safety on my new 1911 22 Gold Cup Trophy. I just didn't like the way my hand fit so I ordered a new Safety from Brownell's. I watched a video on You Tube before trying to set the Safety and that was a big help. I only had one real problem the plunger pin kept getting lost, shooting across the garage to parts unknown. Fortunately I had a few spares. I was told it may happen so I prepared myself. The actual work only took about 15 minutes to file and get it to work correctly and then to stone the surface. It's a known problem with this gun, having the Safety being near impossible to release. I fixed that problem with a new spring. I'm pretty happy. I did a Trigger job earlier in the week but I've never done a Safety before. |
