Cimarron Badboy 44Magnum Penetration Test

Loaded up
180gr Hornady XTP
200gr Speer GodDot
200gr Hornady XTP
210gr Sierra JHP
240gr Hornady XTP
Factory Speer GoldDot 210gr

Loaded up max grains of medium burning powder HS-6 for each load and shot them in some gel. Could you guess what the penetration depth would be?

I was pleasantly surprised in the Factory Speer 210gr

Interesting stuff!

I've been a huge fan of the 240 grain weight in .44mag since I started shooting it back in the 1970's.

I wonder how my .44mag S&W M69 - with a 2.75" barrel would stack up against that Cimarron - as far as penetration?

You know that is a really good question. With these same loads I would guess probably greater penetration. Now before everyone piles on and says BS give me a minute.

With the shorter barrel you will get lower velocity. Take the Sierra 210gr it seems to only expand in my testing at 1100fps or greater. I have seen the 210gr penetrate 24inches when shot at 1000fps with no expansion.

So if I shot the same loads out of the 69 with shorter barrel the theory is at lower velocities these rounds would not expand therefore potential deeper penetration.

Makes perfect sense to me.
I think the exact same thing.
